Calvin Heimburg Wins His First PDGA Major at the 2025 European Disc Golf Festival

A Major Moment, Years in the Making

It took four rounds to seal it, but this victory has been in the making for over a decade — Innova Star Team member Calvin Heimburg won the 2025 European Disc Golf Festival to earn his first PDGA Major title. He shot a record-setting -49 over four rounds, posting the highest Major event rating in PDGA history at 1080. His clutch C2 putt on 18 for the win was the moment of the season— the moment of Vinny’s career—and it marked the end of a long wait for one of disc golf’s most deserving athletes.

Vinny’s Moment Arrives

On Hole 18 at the 2025 European Disc Golf Festival, with Gannon Buhr nearly parked and the pressure at a boiling point, Calvin Heimburg lined up a 42-footer for the win—and drilled it. For a player often defined by his calm, his roar in that moment said it all. Years of hard work, ever-larger victories, and painful near misses all came to a head as Vinny finally claimed his first Major title.

Until last weekend, Calvin was the most accomplished player in the sport without a Major to his name. Eleven Elite wins. A DGPT Player of the Year. Podiums at USDGC and Champions Cup. A near win at the European Open. But the Major had always eluded him. Over time, a narrative started to form—one that Calvin has now been emphatically put to bed. This win cements him as a proven champion at the highest level.

On any other weekend, Calvin’s level of play would have been enough to run away with the win. But not here. At Estonia’s first Major, he was locked in a sprint with Gannon Buhr and Isaac Robinson—two of the fiercest competitors of the modern era. To get the job done, he shot a scorching -49 over four rounds, the lowest winning score at a Major or Elite event in over five years.

His 1080-rated performance is the highest Major event rating ever recorded. He led the field in Birdie Percentage, Fairway Hits, Scramble Rate, Circle 1 Hits in Regulation, and Strokes Gained Tee to Green. He took zero OB strokes (next lowest in the field took 3). And on the final day, when it mattered most, he played bogey-free, shooting -13 to leapfrog the co-leaders. After missing a short putt on hole 17 that could have iced it, Calvin stared down a much more difficult Circle 2 look on 18. Nearly 5,000 spectators looked on. Gannon Buhr was just an easy putt away from forcing a playoff—unless Calvin ended it. And he did.

That final round was vintage Vinny—deadly accurate, ice-cold under pressure, and quietly dominant. But the celebration afterward? That was something new. His outpouring of emotion let the world know just how much this meant. For a player once seen as stoic and reserved, Calvin has become known as one of the funniest, most likable guys on tour. He even ranked second in UDisc’s 2024 MPO Fandom Survey. Watching Calvin go from the straight-faced mystery we once hardly knew, to the hilarious Vinny we’ve come to love, and now seeing him at his most triumphant—it’s been a special ride for fans to be a part of.

It could not have come to a more deserving player. Twenty-four Major starts later and Calvin Heimburg finally has the trophy. And with it, his legacy cemented.
